I've been told Hiwatt changed hands last year? Probably makes no difference either way.I'm in the UK, I've had a look at people building clones here but the prices make me blush.

Their website lists a Doncaster phone number (which is where music ground were based). If you like I can have a look at what it'd cost to put one together but I can't promise it'll be bargain basement pricing...

Would a Sound City 120 rewired with a dr103 preamp come close to that Hiwatt sound does anyone reckon?

I'd do it if I could afford it.As I said above, I've found a Sound City 120 rewired with a dr103 preamp which I could afford but it would be a gamble.

Can you get detailed pics inside and out?The nearest tech is around 30 miles away which is fine but I have no idea how good he is, I know of a decent one who's a bit of a drive to get to but that's fine.I've seen a few photo's, one of the guts and the tubes from the rear and outside but I'm sure I could request more.

Played it a few days ago. It sounds great. I use a catalinabread WIIO pedal in front to hit the preamp a little harder. When I crank the master up to about 11 o'clock I get the gorgeous chimey hi watt crunch that I'm after. Highly recommended and not crap, not crap in any way.
