yeah, do that.

Oh, just to laugh a little, sunshine. Si! So much better than typing trite profanity on the internet forums. You have a whole life left for taking yourself so seriously.

Here's to a long life for the dandy bass-player!

no worries, fellas. i wear what makes me feel pretty. a joke's a joke. profanity's fun.

The film left out some of the interesting setting elements from the book, like the dystopian shopping mall people can't get into without good credit, more harsh weather, and a nineteen seventy's tinge on a futuristic setting. Which shouldn't have diluted its social or political relevance at all.

Instead we get a bunch of actors recognizable for their real life drug problems yet who aren't seen to indulge as much as the characters in the book and a setting that could with minor adjustments function as an artsy Toyota or Nissan ad.

Wanted to like it, but Crap. :WF: 6

Not without merit. Not Crap. A lot of it was boring and self-indulgent (hello? this is a Linklater film after all) but toward the end it got to me and was even sort of powerful.

The most intriguing aspect of the film was the quote at the end from PKD himself. I really should read more stuff by this guy. If you watch the added features on the DVD you can see a clip of Dick talking about the FBI and CIA tracking him, and other stuff about the book and the time period. It definitely affected me.

Also amusing is Winona's statement that ASD it's the most "challenging work of literature" she's ever read. She sounds so undergrad. God, she's STILL lovely though.

my wife got me to sit down to watch this the other night. I was fighting a cold and i suppose not in the best frame of mind to watch this movie, feeling generally irritable. the dialog and what seemed like over-acting was getting on my last fucking nerve and i walked out of the room about 30 minutes into it. the wife is a fan of Dick. Philip, that is. she watched the whole thing and said it wasn't as good as she hoped. btw I went to high school with the producer of the movie, Tommy Palotta. We were sort of enemies then as he had a crush on my girlfriend. one of those guys that made no bones about it and was always trying to win her heart with his cleverness. I think i wanted to hate the movie before i even sat down.

I saw it this afternoon.
I thought it was cast perfectly.
Winona as the sketchy "coked out" chick. (A little upset they left out the shoplifting)
Keanu in a role where him saying "Dude" is his most natural since Bill and Ted's.
Woody as a fucked up moron. I should really capitalize the 'm' in moron. Okay, I will.
Woody as a fucked up Moron.
Robert Downey Jr. as the paranoid fuck up that he is in real life.
I will say I thought the rotocrapping was annoying.
CGI would have been better.
I thought the scramble suits were a little slow.
If I remember correctly, in the book, they showed something like 1,000,000 images an hour.
A simple blur would have been a lot cooler.
It also made the girl's tits look weird.
They looked natural, but there was something unsettling about seeing animated tits that look natural.
I also found myself checking to see when the movie would end more than once which is not a good thing.
