West Ham United, because although I grew up in Edinburgh, I liked Frank McAvennie's hairstyle in World Cup 86, and he played for West Ham.

We had a great seaon last year, playing in a blinder of an FA cup final that we were unlucky to lose to Liverpool. Even though we lost we qualified for the UEFA cup, and finished in the top half of the Premiership.

I went to see the Irons play Olympiakos last weekend, and they looked pretty crap, but I think that's pretty much standard for pre-season friendlies.

West Ham have a reputation for playing intelligent, attractive passing football. We're also known for having fairly crap strikers up front.

One of our big-money signings, striker Dean Ashton just got called up to the England team, and yesterday he broke his fucking ankle in training. Mind you, this may give some of our other new players a chance to show what they can do.

West Ham fans sing 'I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles'

"I'm forever blowing bubbles
Pretty bubbles in the air
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky,
then like my dreams, they fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere.
I'm forever blowing bubbles
Pretty bubbles in the air"

I don't know why this is a West Ham song.
Also, whenever David Beckham visited Upton Park, the crowd chanted 'Posh Spice takes it up the arse'.

It's a gutter about Ashton - international call-up and then that happens, poor sod. Hope the prognosis is good

When I first moved to London, I felt like a real peasant, which wasn't helped by going to see City against West Ham. On a dark winter's evening, the journey out to Upton Park made me feel like a real country mouse, which wasn't improved by the Hammers doing us three-nil in driving rain, and seemingly the whole ground sustaining a (what seemed to me increasingly menacing) chant of "Billy Bonds' Claret and blue army" whilst hammering on the back of the grandstand for the last 30 minutes. I felt a long way up river!

Seems daft looking back, but at the time... (The three nil and the rain still rankle though!)

Bad luck about Ashton. He was even on my fantasy team. I still think West Ham have enough quality to cover for it. Remember, he only joined you halfway through the season last year, and before that Harewood, Zamora, and Ever-Ready-Teddy (isn't he due to undergo some sort of mummification process now?) did the business for you last season. Pardew is a quality manager as well.

I was quite impressed with Wigan last season as well, but losing Bullard and Roberts is going to be tough for them to overcome, and though if anyone can make Heskey play again, it's probably Jewell, but I have grave doubts about that one. However, if they even just use Heskey to knock the ball down (the one thing he excels at) then I rate Camara as a finisher, and it might work.

Wenger is pretty shrewd, but selling Viera hurt you last year. I'd also go ahead and get rid of Reyes as Van Persie does look a bit like the new Bergkamp. Rosicky also looks like he'll be quality.

Ipswich Town FC.

When I was but a wee lad, I lived in Suffolk where my father was stationed at RAF Bentwaters.

I'm glad this thread is here. Can we keep it going through the season please? See, already it's interesting, as although tommydski and I support the same team:

we are currently languishing in the championship because of a massive financial decline three years ago. we were almost promoted last year but lost in the final of the play-offs. this year will see us mid-table because we have a poor manager and a very average side.

next year we will have a new manager and some money to spend i hope.
then i can see us back in the premiership.

I completely disagree with him about the quality of our manager...

I'd love to give those who don't know a potted history of Leeds United but it's impossible to tell it in short. Let's say it brings elements of paranoia, violence, incredible talent, missed opportunities, cheating for/against, racism, glory-chasing, implosion and pop-art. Ours are the fans who revel in our team being known as 'Dirty Leeds', and whose club song was written by the same guy who wrote 'Delilah' for Tom Jones.

Our chairman is Ken Bates, who used to be chairman of Chelsea but now hates them as much as Leeds fans do. I hate Ken Bates historically but am enjoying his gib at the moment. Chelsea have reported him to the FA for calling their Russian owners "a bunch of shysters from Siberia". Tonight Leeds United issued this incredible fuck-you, sorry, official response:

Leeds United AFC wrote:CLUB STATEMENT

Leeds United have issued a statement in response to Chelsea's announcement that they have lodged a formal complaint with the Football Association against chairman Ken Bates.

A club spokesman said: "We are totally amused and look forward to receiving their (Chelsea Football Club's) detailed evidence to support their complaint."

Meanwhile, Leeds chairman Ken Bates said: "I haven't laughed so much since Ma caught her tits in the mangle."

Leeds United will be making no further comment at this stage.

It has become apparent that Ken Bates' reference to his ma's tits is a modified 'Derek and Clive' quote. Even better. It's somehow perfect for Leeds United to have a chairman who responds to disciplinary charges by quoting Derek and Clive.

Let's see, that's U2, The Smiths, and what is that? Terence Trent D'Arby? You sure he's not a Bolton supporter? I can't think of anything else so bland.

Oh wait, that's Adam Ant on the far right there.

Fuck it. Hereford United then.

Leeds... did O'Leary spend them into the grave or what? You knew things were really bad when they signed Seth Johnson. Might as well just start mugging grannies then.
