Shellac - Big Black covers medley

I don't want to engage in the specifics of this debate, and I didn't even watch that video, but what seems obvious to me is that imitation is very much integral to any learning process.

You see people you look up to and you try to do what they are doing. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as it leads to a point were you feel confident enough to start developing ideas of your own.

Which is to say that ubercat is full of it.

Okay. And gangle, if you are going to make your shit public, I would say you better make sure you are ready to take some ridicule. C'est la fucking vie.

I find gear to be fun and cool.

I find playing music to be fun and cool.

Somtimes I find playing covers, standards, and any material I didn't write to be cool.

I find debate and discussion to be cool.

My band played with Technician in Philadelphia, and a good time was had by all, even if the show was sparsely attended.

I really enjoy playing music, fiddling with gear, performing shows, and having a good time with compatriots while all of this is done.

don't think I accomplished anything with this post, but hey, sometimes I find that I can get so lost in the details of what's goign on that I forget that I'm involved in this whole music thing because it's a blast. After being a mastering engineer for a while, and working on music I don't like at all, I find that there's is still the value and satisfaction of seeing the makers of this music accomplish their goal of getting an album recorded and released, even if only to 10 friends. I can't belittle what brigs these people joy and serves a purpose in their lives.... unless it's religeous in nature.

Cheers!
Ben Adrian

1. Those kids are adoreable and enthusiastic...if anyone were to make fun of them for that (and I'm not saying anyone DID, but if they WERE going to) then they are a souless fuck.

2. If they really wanted to "sound" like Shellac, they would have taken 3/5ths of the lyrics out of the first song...

3. BCO? Get my peanut butter out of my fucking chocolate please.
