Tough decision for me, given that I consider myself a pretty ridiciulous anglophile but as a history nerd, French history's my favorite stomping ground.
Gonna go UK, I guess.

I really don't think anyone could make the claim that French literature could compare with English literature. Too many great English writers.
Baudelaire, Flaubert, Rousseau, Zola, Proust, Camus, Sartre, Vian, Perec.....

If Chapter 22 can't have Da Dook, then you can't have Rousseau or Camus.

And cor! They write a ripping adventure yarn too!
Dumas - swashbuckling!
Verne - intrepid!
Hergé - jingoistic!
(yes I know I can't have Hergé either)

The British and the French are two of the world's most annoying, arrogant nations equally guilty of living on past glories.
France is better as a land-mass, Britain has had a far greater cultural impact on contemporary life.
Verdict:

This doesn't matter. He lived at Number 1, London. He battered the fuck out of Napoleon. Like the English did in all their wars against the French. Usually on their turf. We had wars in order to decide these questions, thus this poll is redundant. I'm three quarters Irish and a quarter Romany, but I'm still an Englishman. I love so many aspects of France. But at the end of the day, we are harder. So we win.
