I love Tim Kinsella's work no matter how arty or pretentious people may think it is. My favorite is Joan of Arc's "Live in Chicago 1999." Such a damn fine record.

I care about that album too.

I really like the two records Bobby Darin released on his own Direction label in the late 60's: Commitment and Born Walden Robert Cassotto. Great funky folk/rock/soul playing, plus sometimes hilarious lyrics inspired by a speedball comprised of Bob Dylan and mucho marijuana. In one song, Bobby explains capitalism to a frog he meets in the woods; in another, cats and mice are employed in a parable about paranoia and propaganda. There's also a spooky elegy for Robert F. Kennedy and probably the first-ever anti-Reagan anthem. Darin's singing throughout is gorgeous, and his harp and organ playing's pretty damn good, too. Unfortunately, the recent Songs from Big Sur reissue underrepresenhts these two albums in favor of a bunch of subpar unreleased stuff. Too bad. These two albums are gems.

Yello - Claro Que Si: If you take the Residents off the Ralph Records
roster, this is the single best Ralph record to date. Even with The Residents
on the roster, it's as good as any of the great Resident records. Was recorded
in the golden years of Ralph.



Herbie Hancock - Headhunters: I'm just shocked that HH hasn't
been given more grandfatherly ownership over American Hip-Hop. This record
has four songs. :) Great lp to rub. Probably a few thousand unused samples.

That is their best album. It was also the first Deerhoof album I was introduced to.

I always liked Reverie best. I never really gave Apple O a shot, but I may dig it out and see if it grabs me.

I actually still think Facelift and Dirt are great rock 'n' roll albums, though I may just like 'em out of nostalgia (I loved Chains when I was thirteen).

one of my all time favorite albums -- i found it in my dad's record collection when i was 12 or 13 and it creeped me out far more than metallica or slayer. so good!
