Funnily enough, Sonic Youth were on Leno last night, and they weren't bad. Not great either, but not bad. Anyone else see it?

I saw it and thought it was pretty decent. Thurston had a cool solo towards the middle.
Sonic Youth as a music guest would be the only reason to watch Leno.

Yeah, I caught that too...watched Lettermen, then flicked over to Leno to see Sonic Youth. They've definitely toned down over the years, though I agree that noisy solo was pretty cool. I liked the unique drums in the song too. Could be an interesting album...

I think yr referring to the Leno hocking Doritos bit, that was very funny...
There's also the interview with Joey Lawrence which ends with Jay Leno shooting himself in the mouth with an Uzi. Funny stuff! Diet Coke!
I concur with the hilarity of that bit. Simply put, I don't like Leno because he has never made me laugh, whereas Letterman manages to pull it off every now and then.

seeing this thread again reminded me of what may be the only funny thing to ever happen on leno. spiritualized were the musical guest (and the only reason i bothered to watch), and after they finished playing, leno came over to shake their hands and none of them would shake hands with him. i don't know why, but i found this to be pretty hilarious. then, over the ending credits, leno said something like "i'd like to thank my guests, especially the english band who're too good to shake my hand". something along those lines. while it was really nifty seeing spiritulaized on tv, it also provided further proof that leno is a total douche.

(1) bill clinton sure liked sex!
(2) americans sure are fat!
(3) this war in iraq sure is crazy!
(4) george bush sure is dumb!
(5) how about crazy that thing that celebrity did?
(6) black folks and white folks sure are different!
(7) that one guy in my band sure likes to smoke pot!
you forgot:
(8) michael jackson sure like little boys!
and
(9) that mcdonalds hot coffee sure is hot!
and finally
(10) the oj simpson sure is a bastard!
but one of my favorite things about conan is when he does jay leno impressions. so, jay leno is at least good for something!
Bump. Shit, these still apply. Sadly four years later.

At least we only have until '09 to put up with Leno. Though I'm pretty afraid they'll chop Conan's balls off when he takes over.

He's already bought a house in LA, which makes me think that he's definitely going to do the show from there.
I really hope he doesn't get replaced with someone like Jimmy Fallon. Or worse, Carson Daly.
Don't get me started on Carson Daly.

The same thing happened to Letterman. He was a
lot funnier when he was younger and on NBC. Letterman hasn't become a fucking hack or a coward, though...despite the fact that his show isn't terribly edgy anymore. He more or less openly hates Bush on national television, and rips on Paris Hilton to her face. David Letterman is still NOT CRAP, even in 2008.
Conan will most likely have his balls cut off, and it will be way uglier than when Letterman switched to a more ratings friendly time slot. Letterman
leapt onto a fridge in a suit made of magnets and let Paul Shaffer throw silverware at him when he was still on Late Night. Conan has been pretty all right in his Late, Late slot...but was never as good as Letterman at his '80s peak. Letterman possesses a hateful and righteous Midwestern core that cannot be corrupted by network television. Conan's current show is watchable (and occasionally fantastic), but I think he's more of a major network monkey boy. Dance monkey!
The Conan shows from the writers' strike have also been five times as funny as the shows
with writers. As of 2008, Conan is NOT CRAP...but I fear he soon will be.
