I have a pair of Senheiser CX300 and I have to say I'm not a big fan of them. They don't fit well in my ears and the lead is too short. I wish I'd spent another £20 and got the entry-level Shures.

My favourite I-pod accessory is the Griffin iTrip which allows you to play your music through any FM radio. Much handier to carry around than speakers. I would also recommend getting some kind of protective case. My first ipod bit it after getting dropped on the ground :(

I use Sony earbuds, pictured here. (Sorry, EA forum.) As you can see, they too have a right-angle jack. I have never had an issue with the particular case I use.

I have these same earbuds. Got them free from school and I really like them. Can't imagine they cost very much to replace once they do break.

It's already been said, but the first thing you should do is buy the hard case.

You will drop it once. Your iPod is unscathed. "Ha, plastic hard case, I do not need you!” This will happen 15 more times. Finally, you will drop it and the screen will completely shatter. However, there is still a very small section of the screen that is functional. If you squint hard enough you will be able to use your ipod as usual. "HAHA! Eff you, plastic hard case!".

One week later, for the ninety-eighth time, you will drop your iPod. Your iPod is now in twenty-seven pieces. You should have bought the plastic hard case.

I'm a fan of the cases sold at http://ifrogz.com. I have a 30GB video iPod and I've had the same protective screen covering on it since last March, with no issue whatsoever. The cases protect it from my severe klutziness and the "bands" help keep the port clean when I do things like ash on it in the car.

Since I have little girly ears, I purchased the Griffin EarJams, back when I worked at the Nerd Shack and got everything at cost. Those seem to work well enough.

I have a hard, clear plastic case and it's awesome. After five months of ownership, I have all these scratches on my protective case that would otherwise be on my ipod video. Well worth the $30.

I originally bought EC2s as earbuds to run with. I bought them because I've worked with shure stuff a lot and it's always been dependable gear, and I thought I might be able to use them one day as in-ear monitors if I had to.

I had problems with them. First of all, one of my ears is shaped drastically different from the other, and secondly, I sweat like a whore in church. No matter what combination of sleeves I used, I couldn't get a good fit with the EC2s. After 30-40 minutes of running, at least one ear bud would always come loose due to my weird and sweaty ears and the strange weight distribution of the ear bud.

After a couple weeks, I bought a pair of These Sonys and they work much better. They stay in my ears for longer (looping the slack through my headband helped a lot) and I think they sound a lot better than the Shures for half as much money. I also have a pair of these Sony DJ monitors and they have a similar color to my ears as the sony earbuds I bought for running - strong bass, good, crisp highs.

i've bought a used discman a few days ago, it reads mp3 and costed $20/euro 15 (what do i need to press to get the euro icon?) a lot cheaper than any mp3 player of similar capacity. my first portable music device in years, listening to dirty three or others while walking around the city is sooo good.

as for headphones, my right ear has different shape than the left one, (not that this is visible, it's just a little difference on the inside) and because of that all earbuds headphones fall out when i move my head. so no earbuds for me which, means i use my bigass thomson headphones and look like a complete geek on the streets. my main issue with headphones is they tend to break when carried in a bag, which i constantly do.

I don't understand this case thing. I have an old, old iPod - well, it's G3 I think - and the back, it's scratched to fuck. Because I use it! It's not a problem to me. The problem to me now is that the battery appears to be giving out and it's stalling like a fucker lately but the appearance of the thing is not an issue to me.

But then; I might be in the minority here. There are certain LPs that I look at and think, yeah, I remember spilling that beer on that sleeve and I just don't care. Same with the iPod. It's an expression of love, in my view, or just of real life. I never put my face in a plastic case, and I've dropped on several pavements, and borne the marks as a sign that, well, I've lived and been drunk.

But yeah. Headphones. The only iPod accessory I ever bought. I got some medium quality JVC ones off eBay for cheap, and they're enough when it's only mp3s, and it's only a walk to/from work.

i've had my ipod for 3 years and have never bought a case for it. i realize that one day i WILL drop it, but i haven't yet and the important part (the color screen) has remained unscathed. the metal back side is a bit scratched up, but i wouldn't call it "damaged." then again, i only keep it in my car for long drives.

make sure it's all registered and everything, too. it seems obvious, but some people forget this (i do not think it's been mentioned on this thread yet). if there's ever a recall, class-action suit, or damage to the ipod, you can get screwed. my sister had one of those early models that had the battery issues and she never registered or filled out the warranty or anything, and now she's left with a totally useless non-functional ipod.

same thing happened to me. this was the 40gb ipod that was on the market for about 2 months. the machine died after about 15 months. i registered for the class action lawsuit. i'm still waiting on my $50.
in the meantime, i stopped collecting mp3s altogether and got a new computer.
My question is using it on two machines. Can I just plug it into my powerbook and it will behave the same? I was under the impression that the iPod can only be 'associated' with one computer... no?

i wish i had an answer for this too. i have a new ipod now, but its hard drive is bigger than my computer's. i can't keep 80gb of music on my laptop. i want to keep it on my ipod. that's why i bought it. my friend says, "you need to buy an external hard drive that's devoted solely to mp3's." i thought that's what the ipod was. i hate itunes. am i just a victim of my own ignorance or do apple customers deserve more than what amounts to a very expensive but simple toy?
