I wouldn't buy a Black Flag album, but I can watch video of these guys playing all day.

I think a lot of their value is so strongly tied to their particular moment in time that I can't ever actually appreciate it, having not lived through that moment.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

1) miseryinthesun: develop what is called "the contextualizing skill."

2) Damaged rules. All the way through. Surely there must be some other band that is more deserving of your hatred.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

I could rationalize the adoration of just about anything with "the contextualizing skill".

I could rationalize admiring Linkin Park if I put myself in the shoes of a 6th grade mall goth with facial acne.

That still wouldn't make it NC.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

Man, you are so wrong, Black Flag is great. Sure, Henry Rollins is overdramatic, but man instrumentally they could approach perfection. I seriously can't even fathom what you are talking about.

That said, I can't listen to early black flag, they suck.

I like it more when Dez Cadena or Keith Morris were on vocals.

I would like it more if instead of playing music, they drove hot-iron rods into my urethra and out the top of my skull.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

Is this a way of baiting people?

With all due respect, Black Flag fucking changed my life. For real. I didn't even get to side two of Damaged for a few weeks, that is how blown away I was. I liked all of the singers for diffirent reasons. The band was intense and almost..almost broke up in time.

Another thing is this: What were you doing circa 1980 when "Jealous Again" came out? What music were you making? I was a dorky little kid and I wasn't doing shit. I mean, c'mon man...I still listen to that stuff and think it was just as great now as I did then, perhaps even more.

I think thier music appeals to the more emotional/pissed off side of things and certainly isn't as cerebral and cool as Minutemen (who I also love) but they pioneered a lot of stuff and blew the doors down most of the time. Amen.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

hey misery, you're a fucking cunt.

black flag's first 7" is one of my favorite pieces of music ever recorded you whiny little bitch. do you even *listen* to fucking rock music? completely agree with what's been said above by the non-assholes out there; black flag set a standard for punk touring all over america, ginn's guitar work is super inspiring to me, SST put out some of the best music ever, and to top it all off they're one of the most emotional bands i've ever heard (granted, it's only one emotion really, but it's still fucking heartfelt and honest and you ought to be able to feel it when you hear it and if you can't then you're a fucking heartless bastard). So fuck you, misery.

oh, and what's your problem with sublimating sexual frustration in sweaty pits with our shirts off? sounds like a fucking party to me.

Black Flag fucking sucks.

Now I'm going to go find my copy of "1982 Demos"

Look no further:

Black Flag shouldn't have started putting out three albums a year for a while, and most of the stuff after My War is pretty dire, but The First Four Years, Damaged and those 1982 demos are fearsome and amazing. When they were good, they were very good. They earned their legend.
