They went through my garbage often, made false allegations against me that quickly materialized into charges of my own. Not to mention I was at my first radio gig in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin, trapped until the trial was over. They even attempted to use my medical records against me in an attempt to discredit me. It was hell. Seriously. I hired an atty and threatened a suit, which eventually stopped the direct intimidation.
Advise from me to you:
Do NOT ever, EVER, allow police to use your personal work, personal home, telephone, car - ANYTHING. Ever. It's like inviting a vampire to dinner (at yer house). For any reason. If you ever cooperate with police on something like this, don't open your personal life to them.
It was still worth doing, even though i never was thanked by the two people who's lifes I saved. The guy was one step away from killing these people, already hired the hit-man, and not a single thanks. People - gotta love `em.

There was a lot of publicity about the case, though thank god my name didn't get out in the media; still a degree of moral superiority was imputed to me by various parties just for being a not-totally-apathetic human being at a particular moment, which I found uncomfortable.
A person literally jumping in front of a train to rescue a stranger, though -- the physical selflessness and courage of that act amazes me.

if i didn't have to go to work and mix with pleasant society, i could definitely live without real ears. it would be a tolerable fate, especially if i could live in a castle or creaky mansion and have someone make me sandwiches.

that may seem ridiculous to you but in a way it's understandable: a lot of people spend much of their lives wondering how they'd act in such a situation, so it comes as a relief whenever someone, anyone actually does the right thing.

29I gave an old woman CPR on the street after she collapsed and she came just before the ambulance arrived. They took her to the hospital and she was ok.
