23The music biz stuff means jack to me. I have listened to this record a 10 times now. This is my story-
It will not stand any test of time. In fact, it is already dated, thus, the SP comments (which are an easy dig that I don't buy, but I understand).
Nevertheless, if I put away my dickhead side and listen to this in a fake universe where there are no comparisons or promotional assjobs, there are nice elements that show a band that could be not crap.
Some of the guitar tricks are just that, tricks. But some of the record has honestly good sounds that I have not heard recently, at least not in pop rock. And the vocal are good to the point that they stick in your head. Remind me at times of early Sunny Day (a band which I will defend all day). Since when is catchy a bad thing? Answer: never, but cheap catchy is. This is borderline cheap. But if I was in this band, I would be happy with the record, and I would be trying to make a better one next time. I think they can do that.
Ask yourself this question - if these folks recorded an album just as pop but with less production, better live drum sounds and erased the LA background, would you give it a chance? I prejudge bands on these three points immediately all the time, and I am trying to stop.
Not crap for now. They might surprise. They might make a double record called Fake Tits and The Infinite Fuzz Pedal.

I didn't like the record, first off, and I had heard mp3's from stuff before the record, which I didn't care for, either. the biz bitchiness for me was just icing on the complaincakes. I'm sure they're lovely people.
kerble is right.

25Concession, Sir Kerble? I just think there is a glimmer of potential. Then again, I liked Bloc Party first record.

26This band is bad. C'mon people!
I was thinking about posting the lyrics to the single (which gets played 5 times a day here in San Diego), but then I decided that it would be a waste of time.
Take the weakest aspects of SP, MBV, and Sonic Youth, blend em together, pipe 'em through a big muff, and then record it digitally. Sounds like shit to me. Sorry, it bothers me to hear people talk about how refreshing they are.

27one of the many great things about not listening to the radio is never having any idea what gets played 5 times a day.
i would never refer to this band as "refreshing"...
silversun pickups are one of the many musical acts i dont mind listening to but probably should...i choose to save my anger for more meaningful things...like the weather.

28The hype around these guys is freaky. Even for me and I live in LA. Everyone makes such a huge deal out of them and then I heard the single and I couldn't believe how unexceptional it was. Everything about this band is contrived. Right down to there name- which was stolen from a liquor store here in the uber hip neighborhood of silver lake. Yuk.
I'm not into it.

30That single "Lazy Eye" sounds like Butterglory, who I got suckered into listening to when "lo-fi" was big and I was an impressionable young student and bought a lot of crap that got compared to Pavement.
I wouldn't listen to Butterglory anymore, and I see no reason to listen to the Silversun Pickups.
CRAP. Very very slight waffle factor because I when I've seen them perform on TV the singer sounds like he can't sing that good, has a weak voice, which I sort of like. Sometimes.
