surefire cure for insomnia?

In college I had a psychology class and we talked about insomnia. The only thing I can remember is that the professor said that a good thing to do is don't do anything in your room except for sleep. Don't read, don't watch TV, don't have sex, don't use your computer, don't hang out and listen to records. And, if its not too inconvenient or if your case is really severe, remove any additional stimuli (posters, pictures, decorative lamps, etc..) from the room.

Just use your bedroom exclusively for sleeping, and eventually, you'll develop a sort of pavlovian response to your room where just being in there will make you tired.

Now, since you already have insomnia, this could backfire, in that the room could be this place where you know you won't be able to sleep, so if you decide to try this method, you may want to use some artificial sleep aid for the first few nights to get yourself in the habit of sleeping there.

My psuedointellectual remedies for sleeplessness:

read Ulysses by James Joyce: between the confusing and somewhat mundane style of literature that it is I have often found myself waking up in the morning with the lights on and the book still in my hands

sometimes eating something warm before bed can help

get mugged but dont just give up your cash. let them beat you a bit and oddly enough the pain actually helps you sleep. I think it's cuz dealing with it hurts way too much.
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!
