I don't have a problem with it, as long as the laptopper isn't transfixed on the laptop the entire time. I've seen so many IDM artists where it's like dude is checking email in a starbucks and then there's those aphexy glitchbeats coming through the PA. All the people in the audience are watching dude stare at laptop. That is CRAP.

As if I am supposed to trust this dude's concentration, like he didn't just press play on the piece he worked on and finished last night in his dorm room

If it is in rock music, that's totally fine, even better. people used to use tape loops and analog synths and shit. it's not that much different. if the band is good and the sounds are interesting, then laptop away!

I agree.There is nothing inherent wrong with using a laptop and electronic elements in a band.It depends on how you use It.

I have a band that is guilt of this. I know it's kinda whack but I just don't care so much. Me and my partner play everything coming off the rig so you know. At some level I consider it a statement. I'm not sure what the statement is, maybe "the bass player quit" or "trying to get 4 dudes to agree on one thing is like pulling teeth" or "I'm sick of being in a real band". I don't know.

I don't like it. When I think "rock," I don't think laptops. But in the interest of being non-dogmatic, I can't rule it out as an acceptable "instrument." That said, I have yet to see a band that used it as such.

I was just kidding. I do appreciate the music of kraftwerk or autechre or pan sonic......very much. and I know that at the time when kraftwerk wrote their music this process was pure sequencing with machines.

I have some friends doing "laptop only" shows and we're always kidding: "just look at his face, I'm sure he's surfing on a porno site right now".
