I think the pseudo-outsider music observation is an interesting one. The faux-white trash stylings, the Billie Holiday channeled via Erykah Badu vocals, the pseudo-mystical folk lyrics, mixed in with some classically trained musicianship.

At their best, CocoRosie is kind of like listening to a Henry Darger painting.

At their worst, it's incredible crap.

Henry Darger never had any intention of showing his art to the outside world. That's what makes it so interesting, at least in part. It's also good.

If Cocorosie had kept their music to themselves, that would have been much better.

When I listen to Cocorosie, I am amazed. Amazed that a band could accurately represent the sounds of turds hitting different surfaces in every song. Salut!
