i ordered the record already though it won't show up for a few days i suppose. Well despite that i couldn't help myself and i just bought the compact disc today at lunch. i'm loving it so far, 'be prepared' is my new favorite. In leiu of a detailed, tantalizing, adroit review i feel i can express my current thoughts with this (no doubt equally incisive) question. how come Shellac is so awesome? also, what are the tracks you dig the most, and does this live up to the feeling you got with the glimpse we had in 2004 with the peel session recording? anyway i'm stoked on this album. sorry i haven't seen any publication reviews as of yet.

It's a great record, but I think the explosive barely-contained Shellac I heard on the Peel Session would be hard to replicate on a studio album. Every song they did at that point fucking blew the doors off the hinges, then came back to blow up the hinges.

but you have to admit the brass section on 'genuine lulabelle' really fleshes out their sound, plus the baptist gospel choir on 'spoke' finishes the album with a flourish.

actually between spoke and 'be prepared' i can totally accept the fact that i just bought the CD, even though I had just ordered the LP that also comes with the CD. It's not as immediately accessible as the futurist but it has its moments.
