the best drummer i ever saw was from a Brazilean band called SOL. really experimental and over-the-top stuff, they had some ridiculous dense 12 minutes jam, basically, bass and guitars doing drones, and the guy doing something with the drums that i cant quite remember but all the public was "woah".
and it was , not wanking, just fucking great solid complex rythm.
