I went to Arizona with my family one year and there were swastikas carved all over the mountains in sedona. That was sort of weird.

It is possible - and ridiculously easy, has been for years - to gain entry to the underground tunnels of Leeds University's sixties campus, which give access to the heating system for the buildings. These things go on for what seems like miles, up ladders and along iron walkways, through all manner of rooms and tunnels, past controls and indicators. At one point one goes up a ladder and emerges into a large room, where this is what we referred to as a 'meathook' (which hopefully has some more innocent purpose) and, drawn on the wall, a swastika.

I can only guess at what went on down there in years gone by; and wonder at why they never lock the flippin' door.

About ten years ago, I was shopping with my mother at some dire strip mall in southwestern Louisville. I forget what store Mom went into, but I decided to kill some time in a book store. I didn't realize that it was a Christian book store until I'd walked inside, but I decided to check it out anyway. After all, I'd stumbled upon Susan Atkins' Child of Satan, Child of God in such a store way back when.

As I browsed around, I happened to notice a young employee of this establishment knelt down and bent over some distance in front of me. I immediately realized that the most interesting books in this store would be in close proximity to her. As I got closer, I noticed that she was arranging a bunch of hardbound books into a massive swastika--easily six feet by six feet, right in the middle of the store. The book in question was some kind of weird Christian biography of Hitler. As I walked past her, I said, "Wow." She glanced up and smiled before shouting, "Hey, Charlotte--you gotta come see what I did!"
