There's a lot of bands here in Cleveland, but I'll recommend one: This Moment in Black History.
They recorded their album "It Takes a Nation of Assholes to Hold Us Back" in 2 days with Steve.
Talk about a sonic assault.

221/2 that band is from Appleton Wi, Matt Bacon is an old freind, and one crazy guy...Bubber wrote:Cock ESP
just saw Gay Beast and they were really strong
Davu Seru is an insane drummer, totally great--blows my mind
um, and then I guess there are really no other bands that came out of here, so I'm going to have to go with 4) Cock ESP and 5) Cock ESP, what the hell.

I was listening to them yesterday, and thought they sounded pretty similar to Spin Spin The Dogs, one of the bands I recommended!

I almost bought an Mx-80 Sound album at Missing Link Records last week, but it was twenty bucks, and I already had a bunch of soul records I wanted to buy.

A rollicking mix of ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy and all things RAWK.
I always thought they were from Leeds.
Formed in Nottm, drummer lives in Derby, singist in Leeds, me in Nottm and I'm most important so we're from Nottm. (Joke)
Nottingham: apart from Simmo's choices
Heresy

Oh c'mon, Bubber, you should get out more.
The Blind Shake, with or without Michael Yonkers (they're playing with him tonight at the Turf Club)
Skoal Kodiak
Vampire Hands
Kill The Vultures
Sarah Johnson
And that's just a start. The aforementioned Gay Beast, Signal to Trust, The Chambermaids, Daughters of the Sun, Birthday Suits, Die Electric!, Falcon Crest, MC/VL, Boys Club, Doomtree, His Mischief, Chooglin', The Deaf, and the list goes on and on and on for other great bands in town worth checking out.

28I'd be hard pressed to even find five bands from my town that weren't frat-rock or dave matthews cover bands, much less five bands I actually like.
So, I'll reccomend a couple of friends bands from the area. (Though they probably won't get any fans from here.)
1.Ninja Gun - They're playing the Fest in Gainesville soon if I'm not mistaken.
2.Second To Edison - Longtime good friends of mine.

29I'm limiting myself to bands that are currently active (or in the case of the Mark, broke up two days ago) and have never featured J. Burns or myself as a member.
the Narrows
the Mark
Cicadas
the DTs

30Athens, GA has had a couple of OK bands... So I am going to try to go with my five favorite bands that are either currently active or obscure enough that you should know about them.
1. Harvey Milk, by god. See this.
2. Now It's Overhead - if only for the first album, which is still brilliant.
3. Southern Bitch - Used to play with these guys. I had to quit the band when I moved to Chicago.
4. Mercyland - regretfully overlooked band of Athens engineer/producer David Barbe. This was a really fucking great band. Worth tracking down vinyl just for "Tough Ass Knives."
5. Music Hates You. Yes, this is my band.
Clearly, there's no need to mention the first six years of REM or the first five years of Driveby Truckers or Pylon, as you've probably heard/of them.
You'll also notice I didn't mention any of the girlpants bands or any of the bands in a slightly detuned guitaer over the art gallery. I'll let someone else handle that.
