I love Bad Brains and if they weren't a bunch of fucking homophobes who made the shittiest comeback album an 80s hardcore band has and ever will make I would like them a lot more.

This is something that is somehow passable to you? Like, you know, no big whoop? The tunes are that great?
well y'know, the tunes really are great.chairman_hall wrote:
I hate to jump on the bandwagon here, but how can you be a, and I quote, "progressive-minded college student" and be so pro-homophobia?
why say something like "and i quote"? its redundant.
anyhow, you quoted out of context.... the other dude was the progressive minded college student, "somewhat like myself." one way or another, i said a few posts back that i'm most definitely not homophobic or pro-homophobia.BClark wrote:hey, for the record, i'm not homophobic. i read william burroughs.
You still haven't really answered the question. Why is a homophobic artist more acceptable or overlookable, but a racist artist, not? So if a songwriter/artist/performer/whatever wrote racist-minded music you found to be incredible, you would be able to overlook that because you like the music so much? I do not see how this theory works.

24So the message here is if the music is good enough, it's ok if it's homophobic.

25I can't even remember any specific Bad Brains songs that were homophobic. I just remember the members themselves being homophobic.

26One should keep in mind that in a country like Jamaica (this would also probably apply to Iran amongst numerous other places as well), male-on-male rape is used as an instrument of intimidation and oppression, and this probably influences certain parts of the population to view the idea of a gay male with instinctive reactionary hostility without considering the actual personality and temperment of the particular individual. Not in every case, but enough. A similar situation in the US prison system probably accounts for a good percentage of the homophobia occuring here.
