I bought the Fender/Sunn. It is crushing at about 1/8th volume, running the Mesa 8x10". The channel switching is quite cool, but haven't messed with the compression. Anyone know what benefits of using the compression with a tube amp? I am a little sad about the Traynor, it did sound pretty cool for a while, and it was a good deal. However, it is no where near the amp the 300 pro is.

congrat's. there's a 2x15 cab that actually goes with that amp. i've never been one for matching amps and cabs, but seriously, it did look badass. i mean, it's a 300w tube sunn head w/ a 2x15 sunn cab. how much more kickass does it get?

don't be sad about the traynor you have a far superior amp to it now.

i have no idea about compression w/ tubes. as i've heard it, tube amps have their own natural compression anyway. so, whatever.

Damn it, I was gonna defend my YBA200, but it blew out at a show last weekend.
I still think it's a good amp for what it is (cheap, all tube, light!), it's no SVT but it sure is nice to carry with one hand.

But I would probably sell it and get a YBA-3 or a V-4 and just suck it up and let my bandmates carry it

Not sure there is a question here but...anyway, I play my bass through a Traynor YBA-1 and an old modified 2X15 Acoustic cab for some songs that my band plays which I consider more grating and raunchy. It is VERY good for that. It absolutely does "break up" perfectly at loud volumes especially when you are pounding on the bass strings with a pick. I get that nice "piano" sound out of it when the strings are brand new. I think it is a Great amp, and I paid just about 400 for it (and that may be high, but it is still cheap). BUT..

It does not provide the room-filling lows that I need/want for 80% of what my band plays. It just does not have low lows. Therefore, I play through an old SVT most of the time.

I have dreams in which I play through both of these amps in a studio setting (the Traynor through the 2X15 and the SVt through the 8X10) and record them at the same time in isolated rooms and then, in mixing, switch back and forth between them at times..lifting one up over the other, blending, etc. I may realize this someday. I just might.
