I totally agree with the wings and Paul McCartney childhood thing. My dad is huge a huge fan of Sir Paul and though out growing up that was what me and my brother would hear around our house. I still love listening to it and i think it will always remind me of my dad doing air guitar around the living room:)

Early adolescene for me was filled with death metal and punk rock. I was the hardest 6th grader with black eyeliner to ever walk the halls!
That said, I had this strange fascination with Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." I would call the local radio station and request it, and then dub the song onto a cassette as it was being played. I had an entire side of a TDK filled with, "And by request is Whitney Houston with..." that I would listen to late at night.
Also, I would steal Bronski Beat's "Hit That Perfect Beat Boy" and Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round" from my sister's room. She would inevitably find them missing, and ask me. I'd act disgusted at the implication that I would listen to such
sissy music. After which, I would sneak back into my sister's room and replace the 12"s.
This went on through high school. Years later, when my sister was visiting my house, she perused my record collection and saw that I had the Bronski Beat 12" and said, "So you finally bought your own copy of this?" I wasn't fooling anyone, I guess.
Those were funny years...

I'm going to be the third person to mention Paul McCartney/Wings. This band thoroughly saturated the AM radio during my 5-10 years.
I used to get driven to swimming lessons in the summer and every morning "My Love Does It Good" would come on at the exact same time.
When I hear Wings now, I crack up at how loud Sir Paul put his own bass in the mix on "Silly Love Songs," etc. Salut, loud bass man of many hits I am not liking so much!

thanks to my girlfriend agreeing to push the sofa a bit we now have access to the Y and Z part of the records and I was very surprised to be moved by simply seeing the (gatefold) sleeves of "Burnt weeny sandwich" and "grand wazoo" (specially this one); those records take me back to a certain time when I was trying to find something away from the Stardust/Lou reed/velvet/stooges/mc5/mott the hoople stable that i had amply understood by then. Thankfully I decided to stay clear of the more evil side of the forthcoming Zappa sphere and moved on to Beefheart and Nuggets style stuff.

Anything by Duran Duran.
Miami Sound Machine - Dr. Beat and others
Confetti's - The sound of C
Thriller by Michael Jackson, still a classic.
MSM still moves me when i hear it on the radio.
Moste of the 80's pop bands i used to adore now make me laugh though.

My mom used to play acoustic guitar and sing songs to me and my brothers when we were little, before we became "little shits". Of those, the ones that make me most nostalgic are:
"Leaving on a Jet Plane"
"16 Tons"
"The Little Drummer Boy"
She doesn't play any more. I've never asked her why... (Joshy gets all weepy.)

Recent offenders:
Shady Lane- Pavement
I can just smell that Montana air, summer of '97...
Damien Rice- O , specifically 'Eskimo'
It's a shame, because I really like that album, and now I can't listen to it because of a certain person. At least it wasn't Linkin Park. Sorry, guy...

Does anybody remember the early MTV's "Basement Tapes" competition? The winner was a group called DOG POLICE who had this ridiculous song called, um, "Dog Police".
I haven't heard this song in twenty years, but still end up humming it to myself every now and then. I remember the video looking like a cross between Genesis' "Land Of Confusion" and one of those "McGruff The Crime Dog" commercials.
