The best piece of advice I ever received, and could ever pass on to anyone, is: "choose your battles." Not profound I guess, or particularly original, but goddamn is it important advice.

as in vogue as nietzsche has become it somewhat pains me to say that one of of favorite quotes ever is his. he wrote something to the effect that (i'm paraphrasing) "most people are far too self-absorbed to be evil."

i take some comfort in that thought
