two piece band

Most of these bands stick to two instruments and to be honest it gets a little monotonous, but then again so do most normal(three or more person) rock bands.

Lightning Bolt? Monotonous? I don't wanna quibble here, but I'm quibbling...

i feel like a lot of people try this and it usually sounds like it is missing a bass player. i have seen the following effectively fill out the bottom end for bands with only guitar and bass instrumentation:

- tuning down/playing a baritone guitar
- putting the guitar signal through a crossover around 500Hz (you may recognize this technique from that dan rathburn interview in tape op way back when), compress the shit out of the low end and then put it into a bass amp/cab
- splitting the guitar signal and putting one signal through a pitch shifter and then into a bass amp.

i feel like tuning down was the better of these three. granted, i have seen all three work well.

not sure if art tunes down for tiny hawks, but he does play through a sovtek mig100 through 4x12 and an svt head thru 8x10. they do rule it, also

iron lung used to do the crossover thing, but now they have a bassist
