I think this is a total overstatement. There is occasional vitriol and it's not nice when it does pop up but I wouldn't say it's constant or everywhere.
Would the person who started this thread like to tell us why he would say such an idiotic thing or was it just to get a rise?

ok, maybe instead of "constant vitriol" i should say "constant locker room humor with frequent misogynist overtones occasionally erupting into straight-up vitriol".
