Oh, for pete's sake. THAT's a stretch. What quotes sites? The movie's site? IMDB? Official movie sites are always gonna pull out whatever appeals to the lowest common denominator and IMDB is populated by mouthbreathers.
Not to mention that most of the dialogue i thought was clever is gonna sound lame out of context of the scene. Quoting Hud saying "um...something else...also terrifying!" had me busting a gut in the theater, but it doesn't exactly pop off the written page, does it?

I can think of any number of lines that are exponentially worse in any one of the Star Wars movies.

If you're shutting off your brain while driving, please stay the fuck off the roads in my town.

Ha! Too true.
Look, i'm not making the argument that Cloverfield is high art by any stretch of the imagination.
There Will Be Blood, and
No Country, for example, are both FAR superior. But that doesn't mean i can't also enjoy a cheesy monster romp that's well executed. It's unfair to compare this to schlock like
Independence Day, a movie that tried to tie in jingoistic bullshit and faux-inspirational speeches from President Bill Pullman to make the movie out to be more than it actually was. Cloverfield is basically "BIG FUCKING MONSTER! FUCKING RUN!" with the occasional throwaway gag that captures a bit of the cultural zeitgeist (i'm sorry, if you don't laugh at the image of a bunch of people pausing from FREAKING THE FUCK OUT to snap a cell phone picture of the Statue of Liberty's decapitated head, then you and i probably won't be sharing laughs over beers anytime soon). If i'm not allowed to enjoy that on its own merits just because our country is populated by dumbshits whose brains can't process more than BIG FUCKING MONSTER, well, look, it's not my fault other people don't have more varied taste.

Eh, sorry, but I think you think you found layers of substance in a movie that didn't actually have any. This movie, it is very pretentious, in the literal sense.
