Obits is better, from what I've heard. The Night Marchers just sound like a watered down RFTC/Hot Snakes so far.

I thought so too. But the record is a grower. There is a new sense of jangle, a few more poppy hooks and a bit more of a low-fi recording than the recent Hot Snakes/ last several RFTC.
Pretty solid. Not a mind-blow, but I think they're on their way.

I like what Reis did as a musician...but I never loved it.
But I really love his recording work for Superchunk.
The Night Marchers sound interesting...

Going to see them tonight here in Seattle. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I like the tracks on the myspace page.

we opened for them when they passed through for sxsw...I feel like they really brought it live...but lord help me I just can't get into the record...and there's one song that has a riff that sounds just like a stone temple (shudder) pilots song...you'll know it when you hear it.
That being said, the live show is really really good, but it's no hot snakes live or otherwise.

I saw the Night Marchers at SXSW. It reminded me more of The Sultans than Hot Snakes or Jehu/Pitchfork. This isn't a bad thing, but it in my opinion this is a low end John Reis project, but I never liked Rocket from the Crypt and some people think that's the best thing Reis ever did.

They were fantastic live in Seattle. I can't recommend the live show enough.
The record isn't totally solid, but still has about eight or nine jams. Some of their best songs didn't even make onto the record, wtf?

I feel like I'm quoting myself, but I couldn't agree more sock.
