God, I loathe her highschool drama-club theatrics. The song "Hypogirl" alone is almost enough to put me off on Swans, and may have the silliest, yet most irritating vocals I have ever heard.

Swans, though, are still NOT CRAP. I just skip the Jarboe songs.

gira doesn't engage in highschool drama club theatrics? jesus. he's one melodramatic motherfucker. jarboe can really, really sing. i think their version of "cry me a river" which she sings is probably my favorite swans song.

I once saw Jarboe credited on a record (not swans, I forget who it was) as the weepist. The owner of the record remarked that it was everything I feared and more

what's gira then, the bellowist? the rantist? yes, i do find jarboe's non-swans output disappointing, but she's got a great voice and i think she did some great stuff with the swans.

her album with byla will rule.

am i supposed to read that as "yes, he does engage in high school drama club theatrics" or "he's a tough asshole, unlike high school drama club members"?

i'd call that drama club theatrics crossed with jock assholeishness, not exactly a winning combination. funny story, though.

Swans is one of those bands that took a bit to grow on me. It's some of the most punishing, confrontational, disturbing, incredibly creative music to come out of anywhere in the past 30 years.

I think Gira is great, and his work with Angels of Light is nothing to sneer at. A very talented fellow.

Some of the shit on his website is a bit overpriced though, but I'm pretty sure it's just to keep Young God afloat.
