As some of you have perhaps surmised from the avatar, I was something of a fan. I haven't actually played since something like 1988, but I still love that world which Mr Gygax thought up and then obsessively cataloged. The early AD&D stuff, up until the makeover everything got around the time Unearthed Arcana came out, had a unique aesthetic that really captivated me as a child. I would have liked to have shaken the man's hand and thanked him for all the good times.

Total bummer. Growing in the middle of nowhere this game provided wonderful escapism. Then, yes, you get laid and it's all downhill, but for a brief period (grades 7 and

D&D was the shit. So was Dark Sun, for that matter.
I just read a great article about him, too, in the Believer.

The guy was pretty well-educated in many different fields and had one hell of an imagination.
