in quebec the french laugh is more along the lines of PARRRRFOUFFFFF!!! PARRRRFFFOUUUFFFFF!!! A HAAAAANNN HANNN followed by random gutteral sounds that can't be reproduced in writing. this alarming noise usually increases in volume and terminates in an enormous pull on an inferior cigarette and a angry stare at something that couldn't have less to do with the situation, like a tuft of grass.

they spell it "ah ah ah" rather than "ha ha ha" or "hi hi" rather than "hee hee". In my experience the sound French people make most is "pfffouuuu" (meaning anything from "that's crazy" to "I don't believe you")

There's nothing guttural in French, it's nasal.
