I've heard only one Beefheart album "Ice Cream For Crow" and it is complete shit.

Mindless 3rd Grade shit joke level of intelegence shit.

i'd rather cut out the middleman and listen to beefheart. then you get 5 other crazy voices and great lyrics.

It's in the new Magnet. He says pretty much the same stuff here:

[quote="ticdouloureaux"]kathleen made him listen to beefheart? Thats comical, he never listened to beefheart before 83? laugh out loud.[/quote
why does everyone find it so astounding and unbelievable that Waits may not have listened to Beef heart? There are a lot of Gravel voice off kilter guys out there Who Beefheart and waits were probably both influenced by to some extent. Howlin Wolf and screamin Jay hawkins , Blind willie johnson etc.............
Now I like Beefheart but I don't think beefheart and waits sound the same.
Beefheart always had a wink to the psychadelic movement going on. I also find Waits songwriting to be generally more articulate and to be more well...Songlike than Beefheart.

I've been listening to Rain Dogs a TON lately so I wanted to bump this bitch.

Not many people could get away with the crazy carnival shit, but Tom Waits just does it for me. The arrangemants are nuts. He did that one song on Letterman in the '80s with pump organ, accordian and upright bass.....

The only man alive with a more exaggerated vocal "style" than Springsteen's.

That said, I enjoy Rain Dogs from time to time, particularly the playing of Ron Wood and Keith Richards on "Blind Love."

I figured Waits and Beefheart knew each other because they had the same shady manager (Herb Cohn) in the early 70s.

The other missing influence would be Lord Buckley.

I don't think there's really any point to debate about Tom Waits. .

I think... either you like him, or you don't dig him.

I just don't really understand how any one could call full-on crap on him.

I don't really care when he may or may not have discovered Beefheart.

I just think he's cool.

I hope we are all that cool when we're his age.

come on up to the house, we're cooking ribs and drinking good wine.

He's taken a long time to grow on me, his latest just sent me over the edge in his favor. Not crap.
