Ebay Auction weirdness

Interestingly (who I thought was) the real seller sent me a real invoice the day after the auction closed and I told him I'd be in chicago all week and asked if I could just bring him cash.

It's been 3 days and no answer. So I'm just going to blow this off. And send everything to ebay to sort out.

I've heard of these fake invoices before. Basically someone has a template that looks like the real one that eBay automatically sends, and some jerkoff scam artist just sends it to the winner of an item immediately upon the auction's close. They figure that some percentage of people will pay the first invoice that gets to them.

Just another reason why you should never click on links in email - they could look 100% legit but are faker than Pamela Anderson's rack. If you want to click-to-pay via PayPal, always do so directly from the eBay auction page and only when you've typed in the URL yourself (ie not following a link). Like someone said above - it's all just html and any monkey can program a replica page with fake/scam links.

I finally heard from him while I was in Chicago and of course it turns out he doesnt live in Chicago he lives in Detroit! So there was no way to meet in person.

Needless to say I told him to fuck off. Bad feedback or not he's not getting my money.
