Hey, plant some vegetables!

Just before I left for the ATP weekend, I bought a tiny, cheap (64p/about $1.30) tomato plant that looked so pathetic that I thought I would try to make it grow. Now that I'm back I'm very pleased to notice that it's looking really good, and the little thing has already grown nearly twice its original size! Aww, plants are awesome.

Which is why Berry's argument in favor of the moral imperative to acknowledge our dishonesty about the balance of resource use is such a strong one. Self-righteousness and misguided beliefs about reducing carbon outputs are dangerous, but ignored dishonesty far more so.

Yeah, I think that's what he means about mending the “split between what we think and what we do.” It involves a new ethos that is enacted through planting food. I requires a change in people's perception and things can follow from that.

We now have Romain lettuce and assloads of green onions!

Coming soon:
Several kinds of tomatoes.
Yellow squash
Green bell peppers

Coming not so soon:
Habanero peppers

Oh and our neighbors have several hens and we just bought 6 eggs for $1.20!

We just planted a beefsteak tomato, Black Beauty eggplant, oregano, mint, cilantro, basil, Hot Portugal peppers, Cherry Red (habanero-type) peppers, and various flowers. Looking forward to watching them grow.

All in containers to keep the dogs from whizzing on them, naturally. Brooklyn-style gardening.
