I work for a fortune 500 that is obsessed with sports metaphor. We have had several official programs this year named things like "Play to win!" or "Step up to the plate!"

Why can't we borrow from other domains and use slogans like "avast ye mateys!" or "sub zero wins!" or "apply a coat of primer!"

I'm going to start using Mortal Kombat quotes in my daily professional life.

If I land a really sweet deal. I will say "Fatality"

After I chew out an employee. I will say "Flawless Victory"

When I see an employee that is far away that I want closer. I will say "Get over here"

When I am satisfied with a days work. I will laugh like Goro. I will say "Hohoho"

sheesh. the sad thing is, Tom, i think yr closer to the mark than you maybe even know. not just in professional life, but in daily life overheard on the street et al, and most sickeningly of all especially on CNN & so-called 'news' networks in their coverage of The Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, blunt sports terms are the rule. feel free to post some good examples, yee who have them - none immediately come to mind (probably a psychological filtering thang)...
