A couple that come to mind
Mule at the Lounge Axe, after Steve Albini introduces PW with something along the lines of how can it be that such an intelligent and well educated man sounds as if he should be out back hunting squirrels. They proceed to destroy the place.
Another favorite Shellac at the Lincoln Park block party- the set yes, but even more the look on typical yuppie passerbys when they heard the sounds coming from the stage invading the precious neighborhood - not crap
A Great Band-Artist s Best Moment = your love of them.
22Thought of this last night.
A band from Brooklyn called Hiretsukan was scheduled to play a show at a fucking shithole dive called the Dixie Grill in Wilmington. My friends and I went, only to find out it was a 21+ show. I was 16 and fucked. I went apeshit on the door guy as did my group of friends.
Luckily we saw the band walking down the street and they overheard my discontent. We ended up bum rushing them, causing severe discomfort, and they talked the door guy into letting us in. The door guy seriously wrote "NOT 21" on both of all our hands.
Hiretsukan played after a terrible thrash band that "forgot" their kick drum, and a pair of acoustic metal bands. You heard me, acoustic metal. It was fucking weak. Hiretsukan exploded into a set, which was attended by only my friends and me...everyone else split the scene while they were setting up. So 6 people.
That band played every song they knew, and were absolutely relentless. The guitarist broke a string and I changed it for him. The singer was sick so she passed the mic around during a cover of "Creeping Death." Such a good show, probably one of the best I've been to.
They offered us free copies of their newest album, which we all paid nearly double for since the "venue" (in reality just a pizza place with a big arcade where the band played on the floor) stiffed them out of a promised figure of $200. I think they got $70. I was so grateful to them for playing our little shithole scumfucked grandmother's cunt of a town.
Superb band, I recommend them highly.
