23I take all my cues regarding French music from Anthrax. Check it out: the guy's rockin' a Travis Bean. The drummer here is in Iron Maiden now.

It's Trust "Antisocial", an anthem for an entire generation of young French people in the 80's.
Berurier Noir "Salut à toi" (1980's anti-fascist punk)
Bérurier Noir "Porcherie" (live 1989 - chorus: "la jeunesse emmerde le Front National")
Some kitsch stuff:
Téléphone "Un autre monde" (1980's mainstream rock)
Have a good laugh, check Indochine "L'aventurier" (They still exist) and they were parodied by Les Inconnus.
Edith Nylon "Edith Nylon" (1979 punk/new wave)
"New scene":
Plasticines "Loser" (2007 yéyés revival)
BB Brunes "Dis moi"
Mademoiselle K "Ca me vexe"

25Pierre Bastien
One of my favorites, though I don't, come to think of it, listen to him nearly as often as I should, considering how much I appreicate his brand of automous music, if you will (robots set in motion, baby!). Yeah, he puts together these alternately simple and elaborate homemade "robots" who physically play repetitive paterns on actual instruments. It's totally cool. In Minneapolis, Let It Be had an impressive selevtion of Bastien's music. Some of which is on Aphex Tripplet's label Rephlex (not to be confused of course with the label Reflex which was associated with the Huskers - [just thought I'd be a pedant there]).

26Anyone else here dig the compilation of french post-punk called So Young But So Cold? Some really gorgeous stuff on there. Some kinda Numan-y, some kinda Cabaret Voltaire-ish, some kinda coke-up and glitzy/dancey, but most of it pretty edgy and commanding in the apropriate setting. I like Ruth's "Roman Photo" and the trackk "Disco Rough" by Mathematiques Modern (I think they're called). Have no idea how oscure or potentially well known some of this music may be. Defintiely not any household names......save fro the Metalboys.

Papier Tigre (Nantes)
Marvin (Montpellier)
Sincabeza (Bordeaux)
Pneu (Tours)
Passe Montagne (All over the shop)
And of course, this forum's very own:
Crevecoeur (SKEGNESS)
There isn't a single bad band on that list. I hadn't heard Pneu or Passe Montagne before - fuck me!
