Leaving your cell phone at home (deliberately)

Since I am on call, I need to carry it.
However, I have been known to leave it in the hotel room during tournaments, or at home when I want Other Other Job's boss to not be able to reach me.
I like having radio silence.
I wish I could spend more time in it.

Not crap. Sometimes it just needs to be done.
But not giving your mobile number out to business contacts works even better, in my experience.

I simply have the ringer (and buzzer) turned off the majority of the time, and I can check it, at my convenience, to see if anyone has left me a message... and it's always there if I need to dial out.
Anybody who is on one extreme or the other ("I would never own one!" vs. "I can't live without one!") - you're very weird to me. Moderation, people! Use the tool when it is useful to you... don't be ruled by the tool, ok? OK.
Do you own a fishing rod? I have no use for a mobile phone, I hardly ever leave my area.

What's wrong with owning a fishing rod, either? I have several...
I didn't mean to say I think someone's weird who just doesn't happen to have or need one... what I really meant is that I get weirded out by people who don't have them AND preach to everyone else like "Those things are the devil!! How could you stand having one!?"
and... I'm just as weirded by someone who preaches "OMIGOD HOW COULD YOU *NOT* HAVE ONE?" - so you can be sure that is not my opinion.
Just like the fishing rod - i don't really care who owns or doesn't own one, but anyone who's like "Jesus - what is up with fishing rods - how can you be saddled with such a device!" - or - "I can't live life without my fishing rod by my side everyday!" - either extreme would irritate the piss out of me.
I don't think I was clear on Internetmessageboardland - sorry about that.

Why wouldn't you just throw it out?
I hate these pieces of shit and the people attatched to them. Throw out your cell phone.
Freedom awaits.
See... Dr. Venkman is saying how much he hates people attached to "these pieces of shit" - and I think that's a bit extreme...
I'm not gonna "just throw it out", but I'm not gonna let it agitate me like that either... jeez.
I can simply turn the fucker off and ignore it as much as I like (which is what i was getting at in agreement with the original idea of this thread).
I'm just saying you can still "leave it at home" without having to literally leave it at home... provided you have some self-control, eh?

You are correct, Arson. I was being antagonistic for effect. I don't hate these people. I do however resent the culture of rudeness that the device seems to breed.
