Change that transformer and you may not be so in love or maybe more in love but it WILL change the tone and dynamic response. It might be obvious or, it might be subtle but it will change the amp.J. A mod that I'm considering doing is replacing the OT with a Mercury Magnetics one that has 4, 8, and 16 taps, and then installing a three-way toggle where the second speaker jack used to be.
I want the DEFINITIVE, ABSOLUTE, AUTHORITIVE, FINAL WORD...

For the record, I replaced the output transformer in my 1966 Pro Reverb with a beefier version from Allen amps. I did this because wax potting melted on the other one.
The Allen ended up sounding a LOT better. Really. For me, the replacement was a positive thing.
J. I'd day if you can afford it, try the replacement, but make sure you get one that requires no drilling. Replacing a transformer is four bolts and five wires. In your case, there is also the switch, but that's no big deal. If you don't like the sounds, you can re-sell the tranny on ebay and only end up with a small cost for the experiment.
