None of them kept me absolutely rapt in attention or made me feel as physically uncomfortable (series of unconnected disturbing thoughts running through my head, each displacing the previous, less perverse one) as Kansas legends Mudhead, who also had the benefit of being really good.
They had no schtick, no gimmick. Their vocalist had some physical problems, but that's not it either. There was some kind of purging going on that I find hard to describe.
Perhaps Mark Greenberg has some photos he can post...
I will have to dig out some photos. And I agree... they were hard to ignore or look away from, partially due to the two foxy guitar playing gals, yes? (Yes.) Mott-ly, the singer, at the time had a prosthetic leg and often times a pegleg. For many years (maybe still?) if you were a band playing in KC, you knew Mott liked your band if he threw his leg at you on stage like old ladies throw undies at Tom Jones. It was always an honor.
And though it was Kansas in which you saw them, they were from Kansas City, MO. The only things in Kansas City, KS are pawn shops and a burger place that sends your food to you by way of a rigged-up toy train.
