There’s not much point in responding to this w/o knowing if these stats are limited to the American demographic, etc. I suspect this "all else being equal" determinant rides rough shod over a lot of socio-economic, age, and regional factors. In any case, it seems like a very lame thing to give even cursory credence to.

HIV transmission has nothing to do with penile dewlap.

It was in Science News (a weekly digest of peer-reviewed scientific publications). The article was mostly about Africa, but it gave the impression that once other things are factored out, there was still a slight increase in HIV infection risk (okay, maybe not AIDS always, but HIV isn't too far off) in uncircumcised men.

I didn't mention (but now I have an excuse to) another Science News article that said a procedurally-significant number of boys had been infected with Herpes Siplex viruses during their circumcisions. The avenue of transmission being that some orthodox religious groups have the foreskin bitten off, rather than cut off. I'm sorry, I don't remember which religion "enjoys" this practice.

not too long ago i read Kafka's diary and there's a similar description of a briss (i don't know if it mentions biting, but he does give a description of the rabbi sucking the blood...) and there's a colorful description of how the rabbi tends to be somewhat liquored up by this point as well...it still makes me shudder to think about...

Like the guy that lost the head of his penis during a botched circumcision? That's total nightmare material.

No foresin = no bathtime elephant impression.

Coming from a family that are adherents of the last of the Abrahamic faiths I had the deed done almost at birth. I thank the god I don't believe in that I didn't have to endure this act of ritual mutilation as a friend did at the age of 23. He simply found that his hood had become too tight and was making the act of having an erection unpleasurable. The pain he suffered from for the month or so afterwards was evident from his cowboy gait.
I think it's important however to recognise that circumcision is patently unnecessary in this day and age. If you appreciate that as a human being you have an obligation to yourself and those that you choose to share your dick with then you reach regularly for the anti-bacterial soap and give your most prized possession the ablution it deserves.
Why are we still debating the relative merits of this kind of sadism? Because we're a society still intrinsically spooked by the ghosts of ritualism. Circumcision was certainly practiced prior to the (excuse the half-pun) birth of Judaism, Christianity and Islam but it's the emphasis these faiths put on the nature of sexuality and the sources of sexual pleasure that getting the snip became such a prevalent practice.
I'll spare you all a lengthy rant about religious indoctrination here...
I suppose it's a sorry mix of misguided beliefs about spiritual and sexual purity, shame and a fear of human desire that mean we're still trying to get over chopping ourselves up.
I'm curiously schizophrenic about the few square cm of cock skin I'm missing - I like that staying clean down there's not a chore and that I look more aesthetically pleasing, but at the same time I'm angry that somebody else decreed that it was the right thing to do.
The mohels and mullahs of this world have a lot to answer for.

The only thing I am worried about is getting a look of surprise or confusion from a girl who has never seen a hooded penis before when she goes to handle my genitalia

If you play your cards right, they get over it.

If you're gay and have no foreskin how do you acheive docking?
