Either-Or: Skiing vs. Snowboarding

I skiied (skeed!) for four years in high school. Got a snowboard my first year of college and never rode skis again.
Skiing is incredibly boring. "Go that way, really fast..."
Snowboarding just feels more natural to me. I also agree with previous arguments regarding assholes on the slopes.
I've seen people act like dicks no matter what they're riding.

Rub it in, why dontcha? Jeez Louise! Colorado gets 16 feet or something already and we've had two weeks of melting here in the east.

They're all assholes.
Economical compared to horse racing, I guess.

Perhaps the problem is that you're skiing in the icy East.
Not necessarily a problem.
Snowboarding.
I learned to ride on our lovely icy hardpack in the Midwest. If you have any desire to regularly go fast here and keep your face intact, you learn early to keep your board in tune and rail edges hard to stay in control. That and a helmet have given me years of healthy appreciation for the joys of snowboarding.
When I finally got to ride powder out west, it was an experience of the most silent, blissful ease. There are benefits to being forced to learn in adverse conditions.
I wish we had mountains.
Oh, and there a LOT of assholes on skis and boards in this part of the country. The biggest divider I see is by age, not by what's strapped to their feet. Fortunately, they all spend their days jumping over the same bump for 7 hours so I don't get anywhere near them.

A
terrible day at the local ski area...
So sad for this man and his family and friends.
I was on that run all morning. It was very fast, and I can see how a person could have lost control on it.
Please be careful, winter sports friends.

snowboarding.
although, i haven't been in about 7 yrs now. it amazes me to think back when i started (1987) in the midwest there was a time where only a small minority of hills would let you ride, and then when you were on the hill, you were literally one of 5 at most snowboarders. at that time you got constantly ridiculed by the skiers of our same age. the skiers of our age were the jocks, and the snowboarders were definitely the outcasts.
i'm suprised by the people that think snowboarding is easier to pick up than skiing. i think skiings easier if you've never done either. i was also a snowboard instructor in college and going sideways is (or was) not something intuitive to many people. i think it's way more rewarding and fun though. or was.
i have a massively deformed wrist because of a snowboarding injury in junior high, it's a pretty cool party trick.
really, there was a time when skiers would pick fights with snowboarders and call us fags and it was truly an outsider thing. i also remember when all the mags were campaiging to get snowboarding in the olympics and there was so much opposition by the olympic committee to get in, and i saw last night the half pipe event for a few minutes, it's now like the marquee event.
kids these days.

Skiing is to Snowboarding what
Rollerblading is to Skateboarding
one is for rich fags the other is for douchebags
I chose douchebags because I am one
I have tried all 4, but I was engaged heavily in boarding/skating for a number of years
its 2 completely different cultures
