The palsies jokes! The shaking hands of the old ladies!
So beautiful. This is much better than any discussion of my friends' large heads.

24Among certain Louisvillians, the Roman handshake is still used (first popularized in the early 80's), wherein one clasps forearms with the other person and a slight tug of war ensues. Supposedly, this was used in Rome to immobilize any attack while also allowing one to peer around and see if the guy had a sword at his side. Whatever its genesis, it's fun--and manly.

25i have a wussie handshake...so having to shake people's hands only makes me aware of that and mildly uncomfortable so i kind of don't like doing it...

i've never heard that before but my guess would be that it refers to his "tall hat"...(combined with a beard too i guess...)

Yes, jaw, jaw is better than war, war. There's a lot to be said for shaking hands. Sipping tea and laughing a lot is also A GOOD THING.

28I had a hard time adjusting my handshake when I went to live in Japan. My father taught me the value of a firm handshake, but Japanese people have a different take. Generally, people don't like to have their hands crushed, or even lightly squeezed. Its more of a limp, soft grasp event. They'd much rather bow as its more polite and you don't have to touch anybody.

29thankyou for all the answers as regards handshaking. I still have yet to decide if i like it or not my initial reaction is to flinch from shaking hands but perhaps i should go with the flow and grasp the idea that its a good thing and not dirty or unclean to rub palms with strangers.
