government P => jeep
you seem to have misspelled "general purpose" as "government P"!
the word "jeep" came from a sound, a spoken interpretation of "GP", which stands for "general purpose", which was the use of the vehicle.
tmh, i know you are mr. 4runner around here. that may be why you overlooked this:
GP Never stood for 'General Purpose' !!! THIS IS THE MIS-INFO. It is Ford Factory Terminology. All vehicles Ford built for the government started with a 'G' for Government. Following was a letter which stood for the wheelbase. GA, GB, GC, GD, GE, etc, getting longer each time.
P stands for 80" wheelbase.

justin from queens, those are interesting acronymns sure enough... but they haven't evolved into phonetically spelled new words:
S.N.A.F.U. => essenayfoo?
F.U.G.A.Z.I. => effyugy azy eye? effigy lazy eye?
we could spend all day discussing cool acronyms that are also words, but that's a slightly different topic. and it would take forever.
