What are your thoughts on the word "realise", especially when spelled "realize". I always thought that the former was the only correct spelling but it seems Uncle Sam thinks it's fine to spell it with a 'z'?

And now i just get confused / annoyed.

Nobody asked me, but:

'Realize' is correct in the US. 'Realise' is correct in the UK. I don't think that suffix is ever correctly spelled 'ise' in the US. Also: defense, color, and aluminum are correct over here. And we pronounce lieutenant loo-tenant, not leff-tenant.

There's a billboard in my town for a breakfast diner, and it shows some pancakes or waffles or something, and it's trying to say, "Want some, don't you?", but instead it says:

As for non-linguistic pet peeves, I experienced one today: Whispering in public places. (I'm not talking about libraries, art galleries, funeral homes, etc.) If it's that private a conversation, you should probably have it in a private place. I can't think of any good reason why this bothers me so much, but it's got a real nails-on-the-blackboard quality for me.
