salut to you both. my wife, she 'made' me go see stereolab once, but this show, she was ok, as stereolab, they were ok.

Ummmmmm... The Spice Girls?

I took my daughter... she adored them at the time (I think she was around six or so).

It was hard to sit through it all.... she was in to it though... fortunately her musical taste has improved since then.

At least I was able to get comps through a friend... having to pay for that show would have hurt both emotionally and financially....

Gillian Welch has little to no stage presence, and I really didn't need to see/hear a packed Fillmore full of bald-with-ponytail (aka Bay Area Mullet) honkies singing "I'll Fly Away," but this show was okay.

i also skipped out on band practice that day.

Blink-182 is not a good band. They are CRAP. I don't think that either guitarist can play his instrument. And a lot of the songs are dumb and puerile, and about as silly as rock gets.

To this I say, "big deal".

It's a mystery to me why people hate Blink-182 so much. They're innocuous. They've never held themselves out to be anything that they're not, which is a collection of goofy but hardworking guys who crank out catchy tenth generation fake-punk songs that teenagers happen to like.

What's wrong with that?

By the way, their drummer is fantastic, and he's fun to watch.

And you know what? They've shown some "development" over the past couple of records, and they've knocked out a couple of really good downcast rock singles in "Adam's Song" and "I Miss You".

As far as Green Day goes, they're a perfectly fine band. There is nothing wrong with Green Day.

So I see nothing to be embarrassed about by attending this show. Actually, it sounds like fun. Hell, I'd go.

When my family moved to Louisville in the summer of 1973, it was decided that we would take in a show at the Kentucky State Fair. My mom suggested Mac Davis, but luckily Dad and I voted her down--instead, we saw Charlie Rich at the height of his Silver Fox glory.

My last girlfriend, who had otherwise exceptional taste in music, regrettably had a soft spot for Jackson Browne. She even purchased a copy of one of his records at a yard sale to leave at my house so "we" could listen to it when she stayed here. I can't tell you how many moments of post-coital bliss were vaccuumed right out of existence when she padded, naked, to the living room and put on Saturate Before Using. The dude's written a couple of decent songs, and he fucked both Nico and Daryl Hannah, but the minute I hear his voice I become a poster boy for Viagra.

Oh, the things I have done for women. Tops on the list are:
1) in high school the power rock duo "Nelson" with perennial opening band "Enuff Z'nuff " opening. Even at 17 I should have known enough to walk away, but when she came to my car with her blonde hair rat- teased all the way heaven I just melted.

2) The Gin Blossoms with (I think) the Jayhawks. My college girlfriend surprised me with these tickets thinking I loved the Gin Blossoms. WTF? At 20 I really knew enough to walk to away- but I didn't. The Jayhawks put on a good show, but the Gin Blossoms? So bad.
