'Starless and Bible Black' and 'Red' are fucking incredible.

22i'll confess that although the Adrian Belew stuff is indeed horrible, I like the song "Thela Hun Jinjeet" (sp?)
Bill Bruford's drumming is also nc.

23belew is a tool. but i like his guitarring. about 50% of the 80s stuff is total pile, but the other 50% makes up for it with its greatness. the bruford era of the 70s also totally and completely not crap. i dug a bit of the double trio, havent heard the newer stuff. 1st album was great, then pretty sketch up until bruford.
overall- totally not crap. i just have to ignore all those crappy years in ordder to say that.

24I suppose this really should be a Robert Frippe crap/not crap though.
The dischordant riffs on Red's opener just rule.

25I saw the double Trio... it was a good time, though I was pretty much into Crimson too much back then.
Since then, I have found that I really enjoy a great deal of the first record and the Bruford/Wetton periods almost entirely.
The song "Trio" is a great example of improv, more so for the fact that its not just clamorous and dissonant, but pretty and well structured.
I really like the song "Islands" as well, but I am a sucker for somber mellotrons and shit.
Robert Fripps rantings and such were fun for the first few years that he was writing diatribes against his former record labels, but then it just never stopped coming... that and too many self absorbed re-issues for the faithful to have to snap up... I stopped after "The Night Watch" (which was really good, actually).

My pretty pony! Why, Zorak, why? You could have had any woman you wanted! But you chose the woman I love almost as much as I love myself! You ruined my life, you ruined her life, and now, I'm going to ruin your life!!!

27Amazingly, I hadn't heard any King Crimson til last year, when my friend lent me Larks Tongues in Aspic. One of my favourite records now without a doubt. On this alone I go not crap. Not sure about the collaboration with the Sunshine Band though...

I'm now trying to picture "That's The Way" with a big proggy freakout
in the middle. I like it.

29King Crimson is one band that has traversed genres without wholly subscribing to them. As it should be, their early stuff was the weakest and got stronger over time. Robert Fripp (being the stalwart) is someone who was not destined to be appreciated by the masses, but found a steady following in musicians and appreciation amongst those who enjoy pure musical gymnastics. I must admit that I can appreciate Primus' drummer--sounds like he has to go through a lot of shit.
