Look for mesa diesels on Guitar Center's used section. The shipping can be incredibly cheap, but you've got to call the store to ask. 2 x 15's were much easier for me to store and haul than the 2x15.

I was about to buy a powered speaker - just a little 1x12 PA speaker and they INSISTED it had to be shipped freight. "I already have 3 of these and I can lift them with my pinkie finger. Cancel my order chucklehead."That sucks! Yeah, things change every time you get a different person on the phone at places like that. Also, if there's a Guitar Center close to you, you can have it shipped there - be sure to ask if that's an option if it might save you money. Before I sound like I totally endorse Guitar Center, keep in mind that just about everything I've ordered from there - quite a few heads and a bass (cabs were all fine)- needed some work when I got them. Fortunately, there are competent techs in town and the sale price was cheap enough to where that wasn't an issue. And then a Gibson Falcon showed up DOA - luckily I had unpacked and set it up in the store I bought it from, so I got my money back right then and there.I guess what I'm saying is that you might save some money, but it might not be worth it if you're not willing to play the game a little.

Don't think anyone has mentioned Acoustic Cabs yet. I got my 2x15 off of craigslist for $150 (7 years ago)and it was in great shape even though it was an older one. I've used it for both bass and guitar and it sounds fantastic. Not nearly as heavy as other cabs I've used and it has casters. I don't know the model number off hand, but i could find out.

Cheap Mesa cabs are out there if you are persistent and check Reverb, Craigslist and Ebay regularly, plus as mentioned Guitar Center's used inventory and Music Go Round's site. I've purchased two over the last five years: a 2x15 Roadready that was $300 in Nashville (sold it, regretted it) and a 2x15 Diesel that was $250 in Minneapolis (still have and use, it's the last bass cab I'll ever buy).Oh yeah, it sounds great for guitar too.

Might be that he'd make you a beauty 606 for less than the Mesa. If you REALLY want a 4x12 for bass though, there are EV builder's plans for those as well based on the much-loved TL-806 design. And of course if you're a REAL masochist, there's the 4x15. http://mypicsonline.net/archive/archive ... 0Plans.pdfAcoustic Control Corp made a 4x15 in a "fridge-size" cabinet as well: The 408. Always wanted to try one of those. If I could find builder's plans I'd probably try and build one. Those plans look a lot like the Harry Kolbe speaker cabs that Helmet used to use back in the early 90s. I did a search but I could only fins this picture.

ancientbones wrote:Also, how do I find FM Milford? Googling pulls nothing. And also is there even a cheap 12" speaker that'll sound fine with bass and guitar? As far as I know most 12" speakers are made for guitars. Hell I don't even know what a good 15" speaker would be for both.Go to one of his posts and click the little "PM" under his name.

I've actually made more TL606 15" cabs than 806 12" cabs.I was going to take a break from building for a while ¦ but an order for a pair of TL606s might persuade me.

Would be bigger, but might go round corners easier. ...............Why don't you quit typing, make a few of these, and get paid, Genius Jones?

Traynor YT-15 sized box, https://reverb.com/item/23662-traynor-y ... binet-1974 filled with Eminence Kapalites (by no means is that link a good price, just a size reference)some people love the marslands that came in those cabs, they're pretty gross sounding, but not god sounding.
