Mixing Guitar and Bass for Three Piece

As has been hinted, Ramones mix (bass left guitar right hard pan) is underrated if guitar/bass levels are similar.Much prefer just putting two mics on a guitar/bass to double-tracking, unless the overdub part is different substantially from the basic track.Interesting but when using two mics on bass, I don't remember ever panning them differently. Have done a lot with guitar.Really like one mic for lows and one for highs on any kind of grindy bass. RE20/M380/M88 on lows and mids, some kind of condenser on highs. No single mic can really get all of that sound effectively.Also think room sound on bass is underrated. Tape a small-diaphragm condenser to the floor 15ft out if you have room. Or do it 5ft out and use a delay set to 100% wet to "move" it.
