Having realised we had overlooked a couple of rule details, we played Polis this morning for the first time proper. Hugely unforgiving early on, but masterfully balanced and deeply strategic. Might be my favourite of its type.

but quite fancy all that Field Admiral pushing models with a big rake caper.
Axis and Allies! The original is best, the new editions, Battle of the Bulge etc are inferior.

Could well happen. Star Wars: Rebellion (+expansion) is my go-to rake game at the moment. Really good.

An epic 4 1/2 hours of this, this morning. My brave rebels fell at the last.

I was just looking at this thing. It looks pretty crazy. How many people did you play with?

There is a way to play it as two teams of two, but it's a bit of a cop-out to be fair. It's really a two-player game: Empire vs Rebellion.

Just picked up Tawantinsuyu - complex-looking worker placement. Shall have a crack at it in the morning.

And an immense win for my Rebels yesterday. Lousy Empire was so worried about my run at the Death Star that they gave Leia enough headspace to hold off Palpatine's attack on the Rebel Base. A hit and run on Dagobah saw the Rebellion win out.
We even played standing up, using those rakes military guys have in the movies.

Just started with the most-recent Pfister co-design, CloudAge. Hand management and a ton of interlocking systems. It's really nice.

So I've had a couple of goes on what the board game nerds dub 'a heavy Euro' in
Paladins of the West Kingdom.
Very, very good. Strategic nightmare, but well worth the brainwork.
