Goat takes the prize, with Head a very close second. Those 2 records I always listen to them from beginning to end, never skip a song.

Liar and Down have real gems, but some filler IMHO.

The Capitol Stuff is ok, specially Shot, but it sounds too polished.

So yeah, that one.

"Boilermaker" is a fantastic song, but two other album openers from tJL are even more fantastic: "Then Comes Dudley" and "Blockbuster"

Not my favorite starter

I totally love the ultra violent and sick inicial riff but the rest of the song somehow it never fully clicks with me. Like it doesn' have the right crescendo. Gladiator on the other hand is killer.

Then comes dudley is THE LAW.

Boilermaker have always reminded me of another epic opener, "Repetition" by helmet. Now THAT is perfection.

it's Goat. it just has the most great songs...but Head is verrrry close behind, with songs like one evening and pastoral... i love it. with the addition of Pure it becomes their best release, but that's only on the reissue i think.

Goat has freakishly good riffs and just enough textural variety. The band has found its sound but isn't yet starting to conform to a 1990s alternative-aggro rock formula. (I couldn't imagine this era of the Jesus Lizard on a Lollapalooza stage.)

Seconding Head for a close one, although there's much more residual Birthday Party influence on that LP.

And as just about everyone here knows, the gigs played in between these two records were just unreal.

Liar is a distant third for me.

I would not be so stupid as to try to argue at length that LIAR is a better album than GOAT, but I will say I like LIAR more, possibly because that was the album where I really got into them. Favorite and best are not always the same thing.

‘Shot’ should absolutely be an option. I think if that album had a production somewhere between Albini and the producers that they ultimately went with on the Major Label, this album would absolutely be one of their best. David Sims basslines are fuckin incredible on this one AND you can finally hear Yow lol
