This band has made me cringe since they crossed my path in the early 2000s. My roommate at the time used to jam this band super loud while he pulled bong rips when he got home from work.

The singing cheeses me out so badly that I start to shiver from second hand embarrassment when I hear it. It's corny like a sea shanty. Have at it. Not for me.

I've never actually listened to an album of theirs. I knew of "Chop Suey" and "Toxicity" (the song) from back when they would play the videos on TV and I thought they were interesting but hated the fact that the lyrics didn't make any sense. I'm more forgiving of nonsense lyrics now, but what's still bad with them is the way theirs don't make sense, like it's just madlibs with emotive words to affect deeper meaning. That said, to this day I hear supposed famous songs of theirs for the first time and I usually think they're good. In general, they're probably the most musically interesting of the bands they were lumped in with, and I really like the vocal harmony stuff they do sometimes. I bet they're good live.

Thankfully I was a little too old and "with it" to buy into any of this type of stuff at the time. There was a brief period, maybe around eighth grade/freshman year, where I'd eagerly tape stuff off the Headbanger's Ball that I probably wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole now. But by the time bands like this became popular I'd lost interest in MTV and MTV-approved aggro rock for the most part. So no, I never bought a Papa Roach/Limp Bizkit/Staind/Slipknot/Korn/Godsmack CD, and never developed a taste for the stuff, despite owning a number of very iffy albums growing up.

So, no dice.

But re: bad music foisted upon one at work: one song along similar lines that I found inescapable a few years later was Trapt's "Headstrong." Just...the worst. Didn't even know its name at the time, and wouldn't know it now if they hadn't gotten into a Twitter beef with Ice-T and challenged him to a fight, among other debacles. Hahah. Good luck with that.
